Todays Adventures....Progress

I'm happy to say we've been making progress. The water has finally stopped filling up the crawl space!!! I never thought I'd be so happy to have the ground freeze again!!! Everything is out, including the carpet which we are going to take to the dump:( After work, a bunch of guys came over to help assembly line and get everything out. I'm seriously so grateful to all of you guys who helped and for your wives for letting you spend hours over here after they've been gone all day. We had James Harrop, Chris Hansbrow, Dave Wetzel, Rock Permann, Robert Cunningham...

They came up with an amazing invention!!! If you ever flood do this tip...it saved our backs and time!! The pump we were using got the water down to about 2 inches. Then we got the shop vac out sucked up the water...when the shop vac was full which was like 30 seconds we would take the lid off the shop vac, stick the pump in the shop vac and pump the water out into the drain. I was awesome....it sure beat what we were doing before, filling up the shop vac, lifting it up taking it out and dumping it in the gutter. It was heavy and it took forever!! Way to use your heads guys!!

James Harrop (I wish I got a picture) got here first and got most of the stuff out, then he left and came back with pizza, breadsticks and soda for us for dinner. It was soooo thoughtful!! Words can't express our gratitude you guys!! Thanks so much!!!

As soon as the guys were done cleaning up, my Uncle Carl who is a plummer came and installed a sump pump. Hopefully that will fix the problem and we won't have anymore flooding problems. Even if it does flood, at least it will pump the water out fast!! I hope we never have to live through a mess like this again! Carl, Thank you so much for helping us!! You are amazing!!!!!

So now the crawl space is drying out, the pump is almost done. Today we will take the bottom part of the sheet rock down and continue letting it dry out. In the mean time I'm trying to go through all our stuff....I seriously need to get in the decluttering mood. Time to get back to work!! ***Bummer...yeah the insurance won't cover anything because it was water from outside.....if a pipe broke we would be in better shape cause it would be covered...no such luck!! All of us in the neighborhood are going to complain to the city and see if they can do something to prevent this in the future!! Wish us luck!!!

I'm sure it's of little consolation when you are in the midst of your disaster, but a friend of mine from out of town emailed me yesterday and said that when they were gone for the weekend they had left their washing machine running and it flooded their whole entire house. They had to leave of course and will have to stay in a hotel for at least 1-2 months while the damage is being repaired. I guess it can always be worse.

Good luck with everything. You'll be in our prayers!

That pic of the three guys is pretty cool with the cloud backdrop and the water. That stinks that you lost the carpet. Look at the bright side though, early spring cleaning and evidence that your family is loved!

I am so sorry that happened to you! What an aweful mess! Thank goodness for such helpful friends, though. Looks like things are coming back together for you. :-)

Yeah, I totally thought that was a basement! After all, you live in UTAH! Remember Dr. Jones? His family went on vacation and came back to a flooded basement (maybe part of the 1st floor too?). Totally destroyed DVD/Video collection, destroyed quilts, other stuff. They also had lots of good man help--try dragging a soaked mattress out of a basement! Your pump/vacuum idea was genius!

Good luck with the remodel. It was so cute before! :-)

I'm glad you're making progress! I feel so dumb! I wish I would have thought about this sooner but we have a FABULOUS pump that completely dried up our window wells that were FULL of water a few different times! I totally forgot we had it! I would brought it down so you guys could use it! I'm so glad you guys have had so much help! It's so amazing to have great friends and neighbors!

Becca!!! What a mess. Sorry about your flood. I'm glad you had lots of good friends that were willing to help. I also have to say that just days after I commented on your little guys cast, Dane broke his foot. Jinx? I hope all ends up well with your crawl space.
