Ok, I am working on our post of the week that Ammon and Kirsten were here, but until that one is done, I thought I would post about Sophie's Potty Training experience! Sophie is such a smart, cute little girl....who hasn't wanted anything to do with the toilet...ever!! She would come up to me with a diaper and wipes and tell me that she was either wet or Blah(that's what she called it when she was stinky!;)) Anyway, I would keep asking her if she wanted to go potty on the toilet and she would always say "Not Yet!!" Well for her birthday she got a bunch of really cute "princess" panties, I thought that would do the trick...but she still said "Not Yet".
One day I asked her if she wanted to wear panties..to my surprise she said that she wanted to, I told her that she needed to keep them dry. She wouldn't sit on the toilet, but she kept them dry for 7 hours and then she disappeared, she had gone and taken off her panties and put a diaper on all by herself and gone potty in her diaper. Yea I think she's smart enough to be potty trained.
So Monday morning we put the diapers away and got the potty ready for her. She was terrified of the toilet...so to get her to sit on it, I let Sophie and Adelyn decorate the potty with a bunch of princess stickers. We got her excited with her little princess dolls(Princesses work wonders for her if you can't tell.) So when she decided this was FUN I couldn't get her off the toilet. Adelyn had so much fun taking pictures of Sophie with her princesses. I thought it was adorable even though I had about 100 pictures of Sophie on the toilet after the photo shoot was all done. Most of them had to either be edited or deleted. It was cute though!! Thanks for helping me capture the moment Addy!!
After that she was excited to go on it. She has done really well, we've only had 2 accidents in 2 days....I'm so proud of her...But there is a problem. She is terrified to go poops in the toilet... I know this is kind of a gross topic, but I need some creative ideas of how to help her not be scared.... She has gone #2 two times, but she screamed each time....She says she's scared and that it hurts.... I've even given her some stool softener, maybe that would help... I need some help.. I thought that this would be really easy after I've already potty trained 2 kids, but I'm here to say that all kids are different and need different things. Thanks for your ideas!!!

Good job Sophie!!! I am so glad you are just starting now, I am not ready to help Ben just yet. Good luck and keep it up Sophie, we love you.
sorry I have no ideas. But how cute! I miss you guys so much. She is so grown up! Tell her that aunt Emily is so proud of her and excited to see pictures of her in her new princess dress after she has learned how to go pee and poop in her potty. Love you guys!
Becca, my advice is to pray. Really. I had to do that with Asher, especially. It took him forever even with me comforting, consoling, and talking him through MILLIONS of poop episodes. Sophie will probably get over it in a couple of days, but if she doesn't, don't give up HOPE!
Thanks Beth!!! Hopefully in a few days we will be doing better....I'll be on my knees alot I'm sure!;)
sometimes reid has a hard time pooping and he wants me to hold him. i kneel in front of him on the floor and hug him and hold him. i think the comfort of me being there and him feeling me calms him down then it's easier. you can always try that...it's not a pretty sight (scent) or comfortable position...but it's in the job description and is worth the comfort we can give!
Hi Becca! I'm sorry, but that is the MOST awesome story I've heard! I told Kip (my hubby) that and he started to laugh that she listened to you so well and kept her panties dry. We have started the potty training thing early, 18 months, so no advice, sorry, but just remember not to stress about it too much and have a light hearted attitude about it :).
Hi Becca, I'm just getting the hang of the digital scrap booking, but I'm loving it. You need a program to work in. I like Microsoft Publisher the best. I think it's the easiest. When you're designing a page, you do it the same way as if you were just designing a flier for an event. My friend showed me some web sights that had a ton of free stuff to download. You really don't need to spend any money on digital papers or embellishment's. I set up a file on my desk top and put all the files in there when I download them. Then when I'm in Publisher, I can find and insert them easily. My fav. website for free supplies is www.shabbyprincess.com You can also google free digital scrapbooking, and explore a ton. I googled lds digital scrap booking and found fun stuff, but I haven't bought any of it. I hope this helps. It's really not hard once you get the hang of it. Feel free to call if you have any questions. 559-323-6405. Good luck! Gwen Hawkins
So Grace didn't like to poop in the toilet either! For us I would just have a stack of books on the back and I would read her a story to distract her from the fact she's pooping and usually that helped her not "think" about it too much. It took about 2 weeks and then she didn't need the books anymore. Just what worked for us. I do love the princess potty thing though!
I was just surfing the net and saw this, and I think I have something that can help your daughter. When she poops in her diaper, what position is she in? Probably squatting? Or sometimes laying down with her knees bent? Try giving her something to put her feet on, so that even if her bottom is resting on the toilet, she has the same relative foot-to-bottom height difference that she has been comfortably pooping in all along. (Squatting is also the more natural position for people to poop from. I recommend the foot stool method for adults as well.)
Just keep in mind that pee flow can be harder to direct into the toilet with semi-squatting method.
I have something that can help her to, I won't put it all in her just enough to make us both feel reallllly good
