We did it...

We Finally did it.....After the months of looking, considering and debating we got our selves a Puppy. Daisy is a Maltese/Poodle also known as a Maltipoo. She is 2 months old and is a whopping 1 pound 4 ounces. She is adorable!! Check her out for yourself. She is very well behaved so far and loves the kiddos. She lets them carry her around like a baby, cuddle her, play with her...they are all in heaven.
Sharing her, protecting her and training her will be the hardest things about her. Any advise would be great... We are loving having Daisy, but I really hope she will do better tomorrow night. We expected for her to have a hard night, and hopefully we won't have months and months of nights like last night..or I might not make it.
We are wanting to crate train her....but after last night I've started questioning....I know that consistence is the key and I want to do what's best for our family and for Daisy. Does anyone have any Puppy Training advise? Crate Train or Not? What worked really good for you House breaking a Puppy?

Can't you tell she's loved, at least a little bit?!?

She is adorable!

Our experience has been that crate training is great. It's very similar to what you have to do with a baby. Consistency is so very important and you will have some long sleepless nights. I would suggest putting her crate somewhere where her crying won't disturb you so much and then practice some really tough love. It's so worth it though when it's done and she's used to her crate and you have a place where she can safely sleep comfortably and you can also put her in it at other times if needed.

Hey Becca! She's ADORABLE! Congratulations!

I would love to share what I've learned about having a dog. Feel free to email me or even call. Our mini schnauzer is the BEST dog EVER! There are a few tricks you really should know. Just let me know if you wanna hear me blabber!

I think you guys made a great choice for so many reasons. I have heard good and bad things about crate training. I can't give much advice on that subject. We didn't do it. I was worried that once he got out of the crate he'd think it was ok to go in the house, but I guess if you always take her outside to go then that's what she'll learn and be used to.

Congratulations! She is adorable. I have no advice since I am not much of a dog lover, but good luck:)

Congratulations! I'm a big fan of crate training. As for house breaking, it's like kid potty training. Take her outside and put her where you want her to "do the deed" and tell her to go potty--after every meal, before bedtime, upon waking from naps, and about every hour otherwise. She'll get the hang of it soon.

BECCA!!! She is so adorable!! there are lots of great resources online about training. I think crate training is a good idea personally. One thing you can try doing is hanging a bell from the back door's handle. Then when the puppy wants to go out, teach her to hit the bell instead of scratching the door. :)
