Today I didn't do it!!!

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?" She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today?" "Yes," was his incredulous reply. She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

I love this story!! Sometimes I just read it when I need a "pick me up". It brings a smile on my face and helps me realize when I'm trying my best, and I don't feel like much got accomplished at home with the kiddos, I'm still actually getting alot done!! I really do love being a mother, I'm grateful for my mothers example to me. I'm also grateful that LeGrand doesn't come home and ask me what in the world I did all day, even if he's thinking it. ;) I remember a time when I was pregant with Kolby, I felt miserable!! When LeGrand got home I remember telling him that I didn't get anything done that day, he asked if I got them dressed. I said yes. He asked me if I got the kids off to school. I said yes. He asked me if I made sure they were safe and fed and clothed. I said yes. He asked if I spent time with them. I said yes. Then he said, well it sounds like you did a lot today and you did the most important things. I can't express my gratitude for such an amazing husband!! LeGrand, Thanks for being so understanding and incredible!! I love you honey!!

I still remember the first time that you sent this to me....I still have it posted on my fridge two or more years later. It has been such a great pick me up for me too and its true...I think we get a lot more done that we ever really feel sometimes. Somedays there is time for a lot in a day and somedays there is a little more time for say...Anita Stansfield!!! ;-) I wish there were more of those type of days lately!!! LOL! Luv ya lots and Happy Early Mother's Day. You are a wonderful example of what a great mother, living the gospel and loving her children with all her heart is like. Thanks so much for YOUR continuous example.

That is awesome! There are many days where I feel like nothing got accomplished, and at the same time so many things were accomplished. Life as a mom has so many ups and downs, but I can't imagine my life any different. From what I can see you are an amazing mom.

I LOVE this story. Over the last month, my husband has just realized all that I do in a day. Since I can't walk, nothing has been getting done. I know now just how much he appreciates all I do.
Thanks for sharing this story.
